Clovis Dean Denton, 88, died Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at his home in Garden City. He was born on April 17, 1937, in Gray County South of Cimarron, Kansas the son to Cecil Raymond Denton and Wilma Gertrude Imel. He Married Janette Cook on January 23, 1961, in Dodge City, Kansas.
Clovis was born and grew up at a farm south of Cimarron, the family moved to Ingalls when he was five and later to Cimarron where he graduated from Cimarron High School in 1955. After finishing high school, he served in the United States Army as an MP (military police) and was stationed in France from 1956 to his honorable discharge in November of 1959.
Clovis was a hardworking man who held various jobs, including working at filling stations and farming before starting his 45-year career at Minter Wilson Drilling. He had a passion for woodworking, dancing, playing basketball, gardening, and cherishing moments with his family. Clovis will be remembered as a humble and honorable man, always ready to help others in need. His greatest blessing was his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Janette Denton; children- Gary Denton, Dema Cruz and Sirena Stoepler; Three brothers- Jack Denton, Bob Denton, Richard Denton and one sister Darla Kopper; grandchildren, Joshua Cruz, Derick Cruz, Bryce Stoepler, Brody Stoepler, Nana Clem, Aveeda Hale and Mackenzie Drake. He is preceded in death by his daughter- Tina Ann Carrol; parents- Cecil and Wilma Denton; 4 brothers- Duaine Denton, Vernon (Bub) Denton, Donald Denton, Ronald Denton and one sister Sharon Smith.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Garnand Funeral Home in Garden City with Chaplain Gerry Dupuis officiating with Military Honors by United States Army Honor Guard and Southwest Kansas Veterans Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Garnand Funeral Home.
